Palme d’Or winner Blue is the Warmest Color may not be able to compete for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, but Sundance Selects  will still release the film in the US this year.

The film was ruled ineligible for the Foreign Language Film race because it’s not being released in its home country until after the Academy Awards consideration deadline. Abdellatif Kechiche’s lesbian romance, however, will still be eligible for other Oscar categories because Sundance Selects plans an Oct. 25 release.

And according to Deadline, Sundance won’t compromise Kechiche’s work by cutting it down. Instead the film will be released uncut with an NC-17 rating, which doesn’t seem to matter any longer in a VOD world. You may not be able to see this movie at Cinemark, but the local art house theater and your Xbox will surely make up for that.

Blue is the Warmest Color opens Oct. 25, 2013.
