Joss Whedon Says His WONDER WOMAN “Would’ve Worked”

He’s pretty much king of the superhero movie world right now, but you have to remember: At one time, Joss Whedon couldn’t even get a Wonder Woman movie made at Warner Bros.  Well, in an interview with Crave Online, Whedon commented on what it’s like now that he’s made the biggest, baddest superhero movie, The Avengers, for a rival studio:

“Early on, it’s like grief. There’s a period of anger, where you’re like, ‘Remember all those times that I told you it would’ve worked. They believed me and it did. So now I’m going to get angry’—about stuff I’ve pretty much dealt with. You do sort of just want to…have a slap line of everyone you ever worked for. But I’ve been luckier than most people, so you get over that.”

Even though I love The Avengers, part of me would still like to live in the alternative universe where Whedon directed Wonder Woman. Unfortunately, now the fate of a live-action adaptation is in the hands of men who seemingly hate women (Nolan, Goyer, etc.) and the CW. My guess is the CW version will be the one we love in the end, given how well Arrow has turned out.

In the meantime, I highly recommend watching (or re-watching) the 2009 animated feature Wonder Woman because it’s the closest thing to a Whedon WW we’re ever going to see. (Nathan Fillion is even the voice of Steve Trevor.)
