  • There’s confidence, and then there’s overconfidence. Even though The Amazing Spider-Man, which reboots the Spidey franchise, is still in production for its 2012 release, Sony has already set the date for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The sequel will kick off the 2014 summer movie season on May 2, 2014. (DHD)
  • In this day in age, a $19.8m Friday opening isn’t usually big news. But when you’re rebooting a franchise that was left for dead in the wake of Tim Burton’s fiasco, you deserve all the credit you can get. Congrats to The Rise of the Planet of the Apes for defying everyone’s expectations (at the box office and with critics.) (The Wrap)
  • If you can’t join ’em, beat ’em. Breaking Bad‘s Bryan Cranston, obviously jealous of The Walking Dead stealing his show’s thunder at AMC, has joined the cast of World War Z. The zombie epic (which should have been a TV mini-series) is currently in production with Marc Forster at the helm and Brad Pitt in the starring role. (THR)
  • Speaking of World War Z, here are some set pics. Cool, literally. (AICN)
  • While Marvel fans might be disappointed that Kenneth Branagh isn’t returning to the Thor franchise, there’s hope. Brian Kirk, a member of the Games of Thrones directing crew, is in talks to take on Thor 2. (Variety)
