THE WALKING DEAD season two details from PaleyFest

For fans of The Walking Dead comic books, AMC’s TV series adaptation was missing an essential element: The unsettling and unexpected deaths of main characters. The short first season (just six episodes) didn’t take the chance to kill off prominent characters the way the comic books did early in the run. But Robert Kirkman, co-creator of the comic series and executive producer of the TV show, expects that to change in season two:

From THR:

New characters: Like the graphic novel, the television show will change characters in season two. Main characters will die, new characters will appear. “We have to keep it interesting,” says Kirkman. “The comic book has an evolving cast and it’s always people dying and others added. The TV show will follow that as well.” The show’s creators promise new people and big character deaths.”

Kirkman also touched on the Rick-Lori-Shane love triangle, which like the trip to the CDC, was a significant divergence from the comics, saying that a Lori pregnancy was a possibility. Shane doesn’t make it to see a pregnant Lori in the comic books, but it sounds like Shane is going to stick around for a while.

Unless, of course, Kirkman’s just toying with us.

The second season of The Walking Dead premieres in October on AMC.
