Kick-Ass may have been kickass, but I think fans of the Mark Millar comic series were expecting something a little sicker from the anti-superhero movie. Enter Troma-alum James Gunn.

Gunn’s Super was picked up by IFC at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival. While the last darkly comic superhero movie to come out of Toronto went straight to DVD (Sorry, Woody), it looks like we’ll finally get to see a pull-no-punches superhero satire in theaters.

Super, directed by James Gunn and starring Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, and Kevin Bacon, opens April 1, 2011.
