TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY lands at Universal
The Oscars were on Sunday, but it’s never to early to start speculating about the next Academy Awards, right?. Universal may have nabbed a contender in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, based on the John le Carré thriller. The Wrap reports the the film, which stars Colin Firth and Gary Oldman is slated for a November or December release.
Regardless of its awards chances, TTSS just moved onto my Must See Movies of 2011 list. (The one I keep in my head.) Why? Tomas Alfredson, the director of Let the Right One In, is at the helm. Having Colin Firth, Gary Oldman, Mark Strong and Tom Hardy as stars certainly helps too.
While TTSS has a big US studio behind it for distribution, the film is listed as a UK/France and is financed by StudioCanal. More proof that Hollywood is falling behind its European counterparts when it comes to making solid entertainment? We’ll see.
