The Weinstein Co. launches Bekmambetov’s APOLLO 18
The Weinstein Co. is embracing the coming found-footage alien psuedo-doc trend, picking up distribution of the Timur Bekmambetov-produced Apollo 18. Directed by Trevor Cawood and written by Brian Miller, the sci-fi flick tells the story of a clandestine Apollo 18 lunar mission, which was cancelled in reality. Fake footage of extraterrestrial life from the secret mission will drive the narrative.
Bekmambetov, the action mastermind behind Wanted and the upcoming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, is producing under his Bekmambetov Projects, Ltd. banner. That’s a slight departure from the high-profile directing gigs for similar films, including Super 8 (J.J. Abrams) and Area 51 (Oren Peli).
The Weinstein Co. plans a March 4, 2011, release for the fast-tracked production.
