McQueen to helm FELA
Steve McQueen, director of the acclaimed British indie Hunger, has been tapped by Focus Features to direct a biopic of African musician and activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti, according to Variety.
The film will be based on the book Fela: The Life and Times of an African Musical Icon, which covers Fela’s life, his musical impact, and his fight against the Nigeria government.
McQueen’s first film Hunger won dozens of international awards and earned a BAFTA award for Best Newcomer for McQueen.
Trust me folks, this will be a project to watch.
