Hoffman on board for Anderson’s next picture
There Will Be Blood‘s Paul Thomas Anderson is planning his next motion picture, and he wants Philip Seymour Hoffman to play his Master.
Anderson is setting up the drama about the leader of a faith-based organization at Universal, Variety reports. Hoffman will play a character known as “The Master,” a charismatic intellectual who creates a religious group in the 1950s. (Modeled after Jim Jones?) The Master will take a yet-to-be-cast young man named Freddie under his wing, but Freddie will question his faith in both the Master and God when things go wrong.
This untitled project will be Hoffman’s fifth picture with Anderson after Punch-Drunk Love, Magnolia, Boogie Nights and Hard Eight.
