Variety reports that Shakespeare in Love helmer John Madden is in talks to direct Columbia’s remake of the classic movie musical My Fair Lady. Right now, no one is signed to star in the picture, something that Madden will remedy in the new year.  (Keira Knightley has long been attached to the film, but it’s uncertain whether she’ll actually get the role of Eliza Doolittle.)

The original My Fair Lady movie from 1964 took in $72 million at the domestic box office, which equals about $430 million adjusted for inflation. The film also won eight Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director for George Cukor, and Best Actor for Rex Harrison.

The remake, produced by Duncan Kenworthy and West End legend Cameron Mackintosh, will reportedly remain more faithful to Alan Jay Lerner’s original book.
