Finally! Bacall, Corman, Willis receive Honorary Oscars
The Academy held the inaugural Governors Awards dinner on Nov. 14 and handed out honorary Oscars to Hollywood superstar Lauren Bacall, B-movie master Roger Corman, and one of the greatest living DPs Gordon Willis. Producer John Calley (Catch-22, The Da Vinci Code) also received the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award at the banquet. It was the first time since 2000 that the Academy gave out the lifetime achievement award for producers.
These awards are traditionally handed out at the Oscar ceremony, but this year, the Academy chose to hand them out at a separate ceremony. Thankfully, the Academy posted videos of the acceptance speeches online.
