‘Smurfs’ movie gets a director – TFC Morning Report
Top Story: Scooby-Doo helmer Raja Gosnell has signed on to direct Smurfs for Columbia Pictures and Sony Animation. The big screen adaptation of the classic cartoon will be a live-action/animation hybrid like Fox’s hit Alvin and the Chipmunks, though I imagine it will be heavier on the animation. Smurfs is set to hit theaters on Dec. 17, 2010. (THR)
In Other News: Pleasantville and Seabiscuit writer Gary Ross has been brought in to do a rewrite of Spider-Man 4. Director Sam Raimi, actor Tobey Maguire, and producers Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad are all returning for the fourth film in the Spidey franchise. (THR)
Superstar Will Smith and I Am Legend director Francis Lawrence are reteaming for the fantasy drama City that Sailed. (Variety)
Michael Moore’s new documentary has a title. Capitalism: A Love Story focuses on the lead-up to the economic meltdown. The film opens on Oct. 2. (Variety)
