Bryan Singer up for Magneto?
Let’s face it. The X-Men franchise just isn’t the same without Bryan Singer. So in an effort to get your hopes up, the folks over at AICN posted a link to the Coventry Telegraph‘s interview with the director, which makes it sound like Singer is willing to let bygones be bygones if Fox will.
From the Coventry Telegraph:
And on the question of whether he might be interested in X-Men Origins: Magneto, he said: “Possibly. The only thing that concerns me about Magneto is that if the prequel were to follow the track I used in X-Men, which is Magneto’s history in the concentration camp, then I’ve lived in that world.
One of my besties, @coffeeandcomics, always says that Magneto is his queer hero (along with the Joker), and really Singer, an openly-gay filmmaker, has shown that he’s the guy to do that sentiment justice. Just look at what he did with X-Men and X2. Singer’s films are all about identity. Without an examination of those ideas, the X-Men franchise is brain dead. I’m sure with the right script and the right casting (no CGI-ified Ian McKellan, please), X-Men Origins: Magneto could be just as good as the first two films.
Please, Fox, do the right thing. Bring Mr. Singer back.
