Empire gives first look at Jackson’s The Lovely Bones
I only read The Lovely Bones after learning that Peter Jackson planned to direct the motion picture adaptation. As I was reading it, I immediately began to picture the events in the book through the filter of Jackson’s cinematic eye. This first image, posted over at Empire Online, is EXACTLY what I was expecting. And I couldn’t be more thrilled about it.

That’s Saoirse Ronan as Susie Salmon, the girl who watches her family grieve over her rape and murder from heaven. Jackson is a filmmaker, like David Fincher, who can use techonology as another tool in his storytelling arsenal. I can’t wait to see his take on heaven, but I’m also eager to see him direct Mark Wahlberg (Susie’s father), Rachel Weisz (Susie’s mother), and Stanley Tucci (Mr. Harvey, Susie’s killer).
And without a doubt, Susan Sarandon will get an supporting actress nomination for playing Susie’s grandmother. Baity. As. Hell.
It’s just beginning to look a lot like spring in Cleveland, but with The Lovely Bones set for a December 11 release, I say winter cannot come soon enough.
