TFC Morning Report – Monday, April 6, 2009 – Fast & Furious zooms into record books
Top Story: Proving that bad taste is more lucrative than 3D, Fast & Furious scored a record $72.5 million at the weekend box office. That’s $30 million more than the previous record for best April opening set by Adam Sandler’s Anger Management. Mosters Vs. Aliens, DreamWorks Animation’s 3D spectacle, came in second with $33.5 million. (Variety)
In Other News: Another day, another pre-release sequel committment. Warner Bros. has asked Old School director Todd Phillips and Scot Armstrong to write a sequel to Phillips’ upcoming comedy The Hangover (June 5). (Variety)
The Easter Bunny is coming to the big screen. Sony Animation has “pre-emptively picked up” Greg Ostrin and Michael Weiss’ script Hip Hop. Rapping Easter Bunny? Can it get worse? Why, yes it can. Illumination Entertainment is getting ready for I Hop, a Santa Clause-style comedy about a slacker who must become the Easter Bunny when Mr. Bunny breaks his leg. (THR)
Okay, so it’s not Scorsese directing a Stones concert, but Phil Griffin’s Bon Jovi concert film Bon Jovi:When We Were Beautiful will premeire at the Tribeca Film Festival. (Variety)
