Oscar Trivia: Doubt’s 4 Acting Nominations
Doubt made Oscar history yesterday. The film nabbed 4 acting nominations (Best Actress, Meryl Streep; Best Supporting Actor, Philip Seymour Hoffman; and Best Supporting Actress, Viola Davis and Amy Adams), but nothing for Best Picture and Best Director. It’s the first picture in Oscar history do so. The only other picture with as many acting nomination and no Best Picture nod was My Man Godfrey (1936), but Godfrey at least nabbed a Best Director nomination.
Mark this down as another thing the Academy got right yesterday. They could have given the picture more credit than it deserved because of the amazing performances. Thankfully, they did not. Now if only I can convince them to give Viola Davis the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress all will be right in the world.
