Hugh Jackman Confirmed For Neill Blomkamp’s CHAPPIE; Talks Barnum and Houdini
Hugh Jackman has a slew of projects on his plate. And at the Zurich Film Festival, Screen International was able to get an update from Jackman, who was there to receive the Golden Icon Award.
First, Jackman confirmed that he has joined the cast of Neill Blomkamp’s sci-fi comedy Chappie, a film about a robot kidnapped by two gangsters who want to use him for their criminal endeavors.
Jackman also discussed the status of two projects that have been in development for what seems like years.
On The Greatest Showman on Earth, the P.T. Barnum biopic, Jackman had this to say:
“I thought it would stay in active development, if I’m honest, because new musicals are very difficult but just recently it’s taken a real turn and there’s some real momentum so watch this space.”
Certainly not an official release date, but it’s good to know that the project, which is set to be helmed by commercial and music video director Michael Gracey, is still on ol’ Wolvie’s radar.
In addition, Jackman said it’s about time to make a decision on whether or not he’s moving forward with the stage musical Houdini, which lost Aaron Sorkin in January. He says we’ll know more in about a month.
