What Does James Cameron Think Of Alfonso Cuarón’s GRAVITY?
James Cameron is no stranger to either space pictures or 3D. But even this technical movie-making master couldn’t contain himself when it comes to Alfonso Cuarón’s space thriller Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.
Cameron, a friend of Cuarón’s, saw the film about a month ago at a private screening. Variety caught up with Cameron and asked him what he thought about the picture. Here’s what the king of the world had to say:
“I was stunned, absolutely floored,” he says. “I think it’s the best space photography ever done, I think it’s the best space film ever done, and it’s the movie I’ve been hungry to see for an awful long time.”
Now there’s a quote you really want to have on your posters.
Cameron has taken us to space more than once. He’s the man who made 3D work. So high-praise from him on the picture is kind of a big deal.
For my money, the best space photography is and forever will be in 2001: A Space Odyssey. But my ardent love for Cuaron’s Children of Men and Y Tu Mamá También is about on the level with Cameron’s love for Gravity. So I could change my tune come October.
Gravity hits theaters on Oct. 4, 2013.
