Is Bryan Cranston Officially Lex Luthor in BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN?

While everyone was in a tizzy about Ben Affleck being named Batman in the upcoming sequel to Man of Steel, we may have forgotten that one Bryan Craynston was still in the mix for the role of Lex Luthor in Batman Vs. Superman.

Well, over at Cosmic Book Resources, they’re saying that it’s a done deal… Bryan Cranston is Lex Luthor. The article goes on to say some pretty wild things about the number of appearances in DC Cinematic Universe movies, including at least six but up to ten movies for Cranston’s Luthor.  It also mentions that Ben Affleck has been signed for 13 appearances as Batman.

Those rather ridiculous numbers aside, the Affleck announcement gives credence to a Cranston Luthor rumor. Cranston played a major role in Ben Affleck’s Argo. Plus, Craston starring in the Warner Bros./Legendary Pictures production of Godzilla due out next summer can only make his relationship with the studio even better. (The other contender, Mark Strong, has an equally strong relationship with Warner, so take this for what it is… rumor and speculation.)

While I’m not one to hate the whole Ben Affleck as Batman news (I simply don’t care enough one way or another after The Dark Knight trilogy), a Cranston Luthor does assuage some fanboy fears that the entire thing has gone to shit because they made Gigli Batman.  I’m mean, it’s Bryan Cranston. Seeing him play Luthor may make the fact that Lex is even involved in the storyline easier to swallow. The last thing we need is another cartoonish real estate schemer as Superman’s greatest nemesis.
