Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium is sputtering along at the box office, like so many other movies this summer. So it’s probably best to keep looking forward for Blomkamp and company.

Well, now we know that Blomkamp’s next movie, a light-hearted sci-fi romp titled Chappie, is set for a March 27, 2015. So what is Chappie about?

Chappie tells the story of a robot imbued with artificial intelligence who is stolen by two local gangsters who want to use him for their own nefarious purposes. The film will star Sharlto Copley as the voice of Chappie, with Ninja and Yolandi Visser, voices of the South African Zef counter-culture movement and members of rap-rave duo Die Antwoord, as the two gangsters.

I still haven’t seen Elysium, to be honest, and don’t think I will until it’s available on home video. Mostly because the reviews have only been lukewarm. (Oh, and also, I didn’t love District 9.) But it will be nice to see Blomkamp change up his tone a bit the heavier sci-fi (at least thematically) we’ve seen from him so far.
