What’s a “MacGuffin”? Well, it’s simply an empty object that moves a plot forward. You may have seen the word dropped in espionage film reviews or thrillers. But I don’t think anyone could describe a “MacGuffin” better than the man behind some of the best thrillers of all-time, Alfred Hitchcock.

Animator Isaac Niemand took an Hitchcock’s 1972 interview with Dick Cavett where he explains this device, animated it and set it to the Vertigo theme to produced this gem for hardcore cinephiles. Take a look:
