Yesterday, Peter Jackson took to his Facebook page to bad farewell to Gandalf the Grey as Sir Ian McKellen filmed his last shot as the legendary wizard. Truly the end of an era as Jackson comes close to concluding his work in Tolkien’s world, a process that began way back in 1999. And in that time, despite even Return of the King sweeping the Oscars in every category for which it was nominated, Ian McKellen was the only actor to get an Oscar nomination for his work in the series.
