SOPRANOS creator David Chase’s feature debut coming in October 2012
Confession: I’ve never watched The Sopranos. Well, I’ve seen episodes here and there, but I haven’t taken in the full series. And I imagine that those episodes make very little sense without the full context. Still, Chase’s mob drama had heft and style that was unlike anything else on TV. Only HBO’s other series The Wire could probably compare in terms of substance. (I’ve watched that series in full. Time for round two!)
Now Paramount is ready to take Chase from Emmy to Oscar. The distributor has set a prime Oscar season date, October 19, 2012, for the filmmaker’s debut feature. The film still doesn’t have a title, but we know that it’s being called Twylight Zones while in production and will be released under the Paramount Vantage label.
I guess it’s a good thing that Paramount is holding off until next year. The Oscar competition is fierce this year, with a lot of great pictures coming out and no real frontrunner yet.
Plus, I’m happy that this gives me a year to finally watch The Sopranos.
