Zack Snyder directing SUPERMAN
“What happened to the American Dream? It came true! You’re lookin’ at it…” -Edward Blake, Watchmen
Maybe I was just prepared for a Zack Snyder Superman after he made the shortlist, but I’m not as upset with the news that Zack Snyder is helming the Nolan-produced Superman reboot as I thought I would be. Short of an adaptation of Red Son, Mark Millar’s commie Supes epic, it was going to take a big change to reinvent a fading American icon.
So will a Snyder Superman be more like the characters in his adaptation of Watchmen? Will he be an angry God? If you’re going to reinvent a legend and make him relevant to the culture again, it’s going to take a lot more than green screens.
On thing’s for sure, if Zack Snyder doesn’t take some liberties with the “king of all superheroes” then this project is already DOA.
From Deadline:
I just spoke with Zack Snyder, who confirms that as soon as he completes post on Sucker Punch, he’ll move right into Warner Bros’ long awaited next Man of Steel movie in development with Chris Nolan and David Goyer. “I’ve been a big fan of the character for a long time, he’s definitely the king of all superheroes, he’s the one,” Snyder, who directedWatchmen and 300, told me.
My guess is we’ll know a little more about what the Superman movie will feel like when we see Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern in 2011.
