Once you’ve played the lead in an adaptation of the biggest literary blockbuster of the 21st century, you can pretty much write your own ticket. Well, Noomi Rapace just checked a bag for Victorian England.

The Wrap reports that Rapace, who played hacker Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, has signed on to play an unknown role in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming Sherlock Holmes sequel.

Paramount reportedly wanted her in the new Mission: Impossible movie. McG thought she could be good for This Means War. Brett Ratner just wanted the chance to meet her so they could watch Rush Hour 3 together.

Alas, Warner Bros. has won the bragging rights for Rapace’s Hollywood debut, as the 30-year-old actress is set to play the female lead in Sherlock Holmes 2, her publicist has confirmed to TheWrap. More…

So while Rooney Mara takes over the role of Lisbeth in Hollywood’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Noomi has to slum it in a movie with the likes of Robert Downey, Jr., Jude Law, and (maybe) Daniel Day-Lewis. Hollywood is cruel.
