CIFF 34 Preview: HIPSTERS
I don’t remember where I discovered Hipsters. (It probably came through on my “awesome Russian musicals” Google Alert.) Let’s just say when I watched the trailer above the first time a few months ago, I knew I would have to see this Russian Hairspray. I just didn’t think it would ever happen in a theater. Not so, thanks to the Cleveland International Film Festival, which has two more screening of Hipsters to go before the festival’s end.
From CIFF:
A smash success in Russia and winner of top NIKA Awards including Best Film, Best Sound, Best Art Design, and Best Costume Design, Hipsters is a candy-colored musical set in the drab Soviet Union of the 1950s.
Hipsters, directed by Valery Todorovsky, screens at the 34th Cleveland International Film Festival tonight at 7 p.m. (on Stand By) and tomorrow at 10 p.m. Get tickets for tomorrow’s screening here.
