Gossip Girl‘s Blake Lively will play Hal Jordan’s love interest Carol Ferris in DC’s upcoming superhero blockbuster The Green Lantern, according to Variety. There were rumors that Lively was in the running  for a few weeks, pitting her against Diane Kruger, Jennifer Garner, and Eva Green for the coveted role. And while Green would have been my pick (not because of the name, jeez), Lively, who carries herself like a movie star even in Gossip Girl, is a solid choice.

Now we just have to see if she can pull off black hair.

The Green Lantern, written by Greg Berlanti, directed by Martin Campbell, and starring Ryan Reynolds, hits theaters on June 17, 2011.
