Angels & Demons edges out Star Trek – TFC Morning Report
Top Story: The Ron Howard-directed thriller Angels & Demons beat Star Trek (barely) for No. 1 at the domestic box office. The Tom Hanks-starrer took $48 million, a far cry from the $77 million its predecessor The Da Vinci Code made on opening weekend. Star Trek stayed strong with a $43 million second weekend, dropping only 43 percent from last weekend. Overseas Angels & Demons fared a little better with $104 million in weekend grosses. In Other News: Sean Penn is in talks to play a wealthy but utterly bored rock star in This Must Be the Place for Italian director Paolo Sorrentino. The film will be Sorrentino’s English-language debut. (Variety)
It’s play time for Peter Berg. The director is in talks to direct a film adaptation of Hasbro’s board game Battleship. Based on Berg’s record, he will probably sink this Battleship. (THR)
Milla Jovovich is set to star alongside Robert De Niro and Edward Norton in the thriller Stone. (Variety)
