Joaquin Phoenix Courted For A Villain Role in BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN!!
On the heels of news that Argo’s Chris Terrio will rewrite what I can only assume is David Goyer’s depressingly awful Batman Vs. Superman script, we now have word that one of the best actors working in cinema today, Joaquin Phoenix, is up for the role of the baddie in the Man of Steel sequel.
We can only assume that Phoenix would be playing Lex Luthor, at least until there’s official word otherwise. Usually, I’d balk at the idea of adding Luthor, but if Phoenix is playing him, I’ll bite.
Of course, this assumes that Phoenix, who currently stars in the Golden Globe nominated film Her, takes the role. Phoenix has been twice offered comic book movie roles, most notably that of the Joker in The Dark Knight, and has twice declined. But he wasn’t being courted to star in a movie with his I’m Not Here director Casey Affleck’s brother, who obviously has some sway if Terrio is on board.
So what happens if he joins? Well, that little ray of hope from Terrio’s hiring just became a much bigger one.
