The X-Men Will Battle Apocalypse On The Big Screen In 2016
Could X-Men: Days of Future Past‘s time travel tale head straight into the Age of Apocalypse? That may be the case after this tweet from director Bryan Singer:
#Xmen #Apocalypse 2016!
— Bryan Singer (@BryanSinger) December 5, 2013
Singer’s Days of Future Past may already be the most expensive superhero movie so we know it isn’t a small scale project. But if that tweet has anything to say, it won’t be the most ambitious one. That would have to go to any story incorporating Apocalypse, an the Egyptian born first mutant who wields alien technology.
In Age of Apocalypse, we’re thrown into an alternative timeline where Apocalypse has conquers Earth. The only mutant who is aware of this shift in time is Bishop, who just happens to be introduced in Days of Future Past.
How you could contain one, or any, Apocalypse storyline to a single movie is beyond me. However, Days of Future past could easily setup the Age of Apocalypse storyline. If we have to go, part one and part two, which Fox should have done with woefully mismanaged Phoenix saga, then so be it.
Singer, despite not being ever fan’s favorite, certainly has an ambitious plan as Fox expands the X-Men Cinematic Universe with a rebooted Fantastic Four as part of this new world. And as Fox and Sony begin to follow Marvel’s formula more closely. So now there are going to be very few coincidences in the structure of these pictures. Time travel leading right to Apocalypse. Makes complete sense.
Now if only I would have saved that awesome Toy Biz Apocalypse action figure. I’m sure I could have gotten a pretty penny when this movie hits.
